Pro Football Hall of Fame Ceremony Comes to Steve McMichael

Battling ALS, McMichael Receives Honor at Home

Despite being unable to travel to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Steve McMichael was honored with a special ceremony at his home. McMichael, who is battling ALS and bedridden, was presented with his Hall of Fame bust by Jarrett Payton, the son of NFL legend Walter Payton.

A Distinguished Career

As a full-time starter, McMichael earned two Pro Bowl nods (1986 and 1987) and three consecutive first-team All-Pro selections (1985-87). He was a key member of the Bears' Super Bowl XX championship team in 1985.

McMichael's enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a testament to his exceptional talent and unwavering determination. Despite facing the challenges of ALS, he remained resolute in his commitment to the game and to his fans. In the end, the ceremony that was originally intended for Canton came to him, a fitting tribute to a true football legend.
