Colin Gibb, the longest-standing member of pop band Black Lace, has died at the age of 70. The group were best known for their 1984 novelty hit Agadoo, which reached number two in the UK charts.

Gibb's death was announced on the band's official Facebook page. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colin Gibb, our lead singer and founding member of Black Lace," the statement read.

"Colin passed away peacefully in his sleep last night, surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old."

Gibb was born in London in 1951. He began his music career in the 1970s, singing in various bands before joining Black Lace in 1979.

The band's biggest hit, Agadoo, was released in 1984 and became a worldwide sensation. The song was a novelty dance track about a fictional character named Agadoo, who was described as a "monkey man" with "supernatural powers."

Black Lace continued to release music throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but they never managed to repeat the success of Agadoo. The band's last album, Party Crazy, was released in 2003.
